Austrian Pine (Pinus nigra) is a hardy evergreen, adaptable to many adverse urban conditions and pH soil ranges. It grows 40-60 ft. in height and 25-40 ft. in width and is hardy to zone 3b. Prefers full sun and well-drained soil. | |

Needles are dark green and stiff. They are 5-6 inches long and borne in groups of two. | |

Flowers are monoecious. The male flower is yellow-green, and grows in clusters along twigs. Female flowers are oval and yellow to purple in color. | |

Cones are 2 to 3 inches long and brown in color. They mature in September to November. | |
 |
Bark has light gray ridges with brown furrows. |
