The
Extension Nutrition Programs provide a variety of free information and classes
to individuals, families, and children with limited resources.
There is information on how to prepare safe and nutritious meals, save
money at the grocery store, feed children, and much more!

The classes are offered in English and Spanish.
When participants complete the course, they receive a free cookbook and
a certificate from Colorado State University Cooperative Extension. *

The Food Guide Pyramid
The Food Guide Pyramid shows us how to eat a
balanced diet each day. By
choosing the minimum number of servings from the Food Guide Pyramid you will
be on your way to eating more nutritiously.
What Is A Serving Size for the Food Guide
Pyramid?

Bread, Cereal, Rice & Pasta
|
1 slice of bread
|
1 ounce of ready-to-eat cereal
|
½ cup of cooked cereal, rice, pasta
|
|
Vegetable
|
1 cup of raw, leafy vegetables
|
½ cup cooked or 1 cup chopped, raw vegetables
|
¾ cup of vegetable juice
|
|
Fruit
|
1 medium apple, banana, orange
|
½ cup of chopped, cooked or canned fruit
|
¾ cup of fruit juice
|
|
Milk, Yogurt, Cheese
|
1 cup (8 oz.) of milk or yogurt
|
1 ½ ounces of natural cheese
|
2 ounces of processed cheese
|
|
Meat, Poultry, Fish, Dry Beans, Eggs, Nuts
|
2-3 ounces of cooked lean meat, poultry, or fish
|
1 cup of cooked dry beans or 2 eggs equals 2 ounces of protein
|
4 tbsp. of peanut butter equals 2 ounces of protein
|
|
Fats, Oils, Sweets
