Dolores County Broadcasting Network DCBN, UHF & Cable Public TV
and Radio Channels, Manager
"DC TV" was initiated in 1996 as a cable based public access channel. With the
inclusion of the 100 watt UHF transmitter, a 100 foot antenna tower and automated
weather station, "DC TV" expanded its potential broadcast audience
from 500 in the town of Dove Creek (those on cable) to over 5,000 in the surrounding
area including SE Utah, SW San Miguel County, Northern Montezuma County and
all of Western Dolores County. Presently, almost all local government agencies,
organizations and groups use the station for information gathering & dissemination
through the 24 hour a day scrolling community events system or through the use
of video tapes and live programming.
Most live programming consists of special school programs, local educational workshops and elementary through high school students producing and directing the 4-H Evening News Program.
In 2000, the "DC TV" name was changed to the Dolores County Broadcasting Network (DCBN) as "DC TV" is now only one component of the TV & radio operations. DCBN currently broadcasts "DC TV" on UHF and cable, and rebroadcasts the Farm Channel, NBC, CBS, ABC, FOX & WB. There is also a rebroadcast feed of Colorado Public Radio on FM.
DCBN continues its successful solicitation of yearly cash sponsorships for programming and activities from local individuals and businesses. These sponsors are given anywhere from 1 line to a full page of acknowledgement (depending on level of sponsorship) on our TV community calendar/information scrolling system.

in April, 1991, and is a cooperative effort among Montezuma County Extension,
Dolores County Extension and the Colorado State University Southwest Colorado

Project in 1992, has resulted in a substantial number of new client requests
for local research based information/data on fruit tree and vineyard cultivars,
equipment usage and cultural practices. Presently, the Team is evaluating 40
different fruit tree cultivars including apples, peaches, pears, trellised apples,
10 trellised grape cultivars, 1 raspberry cultivar, 14 grass cultivars, 9 micro
irrigation systems and 3 frost protection systems. We continue to investigate
marketing opportunities as well as Home-Based Business opportunities as they
relate fo fruit and vineyard production utilization, i.e. fruit and bi-products.
Strong emphasis has been placed on demonstrating, evaluating and testing cultivars, irrigation equipment, orchard equipment and cultural practices that are cost effective, user friendly and available through local suppliers. Regular pruning workshops and field days are held during the season.
