4-H Enrollment Information

Membership is open to any Arapahoe County Youth, 5-18 years of age as of Jan. 1, 2007, regardless of race, color, creed, sex, national origin or handicapping conditions. All children ages 5-7 must enroll in the Cloverbud project, which explores several 4-H topics and is noncompetitive. Children, ages 8-18 as of January 1, 2007 enroll in 4-H projects of their choice.

TYPES OF MEMBERSHIP
Traditional 4-H Club - Youth and parents interested in joining an existing club or forming a 4-H Club (usually within their neighborhood).

Family 4-H Club - Families may enroll as a club if community clubs are not available. Parents must sign up as leaders and complete volunteer requirements. Family club parents must submit all applicable paper work (call office for information).

MEMBER ENROLLMENT
Each member pays an enrollment fee of $25.00 which covers project literature for three projects, accident insurance (covers State/County/Club 4-H functions with an adult 4-H leader supervising) and State Enrollment Fee. Each additional project is $5.00 per project.

LEADER ENROLLMENT
First Year/New Leaders pay a $15.00 enrollment fee. Returning Leaders pay a $5.00 re-enrollment fee. Project leaders should be designated for each project in which 4-H members enroll. Leaders sign up for only those projects in which members are enrolled. Leaders may purchase accident insurance (optional) for $1.00 ($2.00 for horse leaders). Each leader must complete an enrollment form. All new family and traditional club leaders must complete a 4-H Volunteer Leader application (green form) and attend the mandatory New Leader Orientation.

ENROLLMENT FEES
Organizational leaders are responsible for submitting the following enrollment materials to the Extension Office (address above):

* Enrollment forms for all members & leaders

* Permission forms for each member

* Member and leader enrollment fees - Enrollments will NOT
be processed or project literature ordered without fees.

* Completed Volunteer Application Form along with
references for new leaders - Must be on file before
literature will be ordered for new leaders.

* Completed Affirmative Action Form or Family Club
   Application

ENROLLMENT PERIOD
Returning 4-H members and leaders are encouraged to enroll in 4-H between October 1 and October 31, each year. New 4-H members and leaders may enroll in existing 4-H clubs until March 1 of the current 4-H year. Family Club and new club members may join through May 1, 2007. To participate in county fair, members must be enrolled by May 1 of the current 4-H year. Enrollments in animal projects will not be taken after March 1 of the current 4-H year. 4-H'ers may enroll in one county only.

PROJECT LITERATURE
A new process this year will enable members and leaders to get project manuals sooner. With the exception of our county projects, we are using E-Records now. The State is currently updating the E-Records, so make sure you get the most current copy. When the enrollments are in from each club, ideally before October 31, 2006, the organizational leader or other designated leader will set up an appointment with the 4-H Staff to pick up the manuals at the 4-H Office or the Multi-Purpose Building. If the office does not have the manuals at that time, the manuals will be ordered and sent to the organizational leader. A fee will be assessed for any additional or replacement copies.
