What is 4-H

"4-H" is an acronym for Head, Heart, Hands and Health.  Each H is shown on a leaf of the clover, the trademark symbol of 4-H clubs around America.

4-H is the youth development program of each land-grant university in the U.S.A.  In Colorado, the 4-H program is supported by 4-H faculty from Colorado State University.  At the county level 4-H programs are offered via county Extension 4-H staff and adult volunteers who organize neighborhood 4-H clubs.  4-H programs are also available through school enrichment programs.

4-H youth development programs began about 100 years ago in rural areas in America to help extend research-based knowledge from the state colleges to the youth of outlying communities. Today, millions of youth in cities, small towns, and rural communities are involved in 4-H projects through 4-H clubs, schools, and community programs.

4-H is Family Oriented

4-H youth complete hands-on projects with the help of skilled, caring adults. Parents are needed to provide leadership, training and support for youth life-skill development.
