4-H is a youth organization
that belongs to the members, their families and interested adults who
serve as volunteer leaders. This organization provides hands on learning
experiences designed to help youth develop life skills. 4-H is the youth
development outreach effort of Colorado State University. Tax support
comes from the county, state government and the USDA.
4-H is young people
(ages 5-18 years old as of January 1) sharing, doing and learning together
in all kinds of projects, events and activities in informal situations
with guidance of their families and other volunteer leaders. Enrollment
is $30 a year and includes books.
Those who join 4-H
will become a member of a certain Club. Each club votes on members to
fill office positions such as president, vice-president, secretary,
treasurer, etc. This gives the members an opportunity to strengthen
or develop leadership skills. Depending on what projects are chosen,
determines which club may be recommended for the member so that it fits
the interests of the person.
Each 4-H
member may choose various 4-H projects to do during the year. At the
end of the 4-H year those enrolled get an opportunity to display and
have their work judged at the County Fair. They may even qualify for
the State Fair! These projects provide a fun learning experience that
will last a lifetime!
