4-H  To Make the Best Better

Communication, decision-making, leadership; these are all skills learned through involvement with 4-H, a youth development organization administrated by Colorado State University and organized by the County Extension office.  Through the help of volunteer leaders, parents, and other individuals, 4-H members are able to participate in educational experiences in both family and community settings.

Education?  But isn't that what school is for?  Not this time!  4-H education allows opportunities to raise livestock, show horses, and learn shooting sports, leather crafts, cooking, and many more.  Members choose one of these as a 4-H project and spend the year actively learning about their topic.  Parents are invaluable resources for support and encouragement during the project.  The 4-H year culminates with the option to exhibit project work at the County Fair, a very popular activity.

In addition to project work, members can learn record-keeping, how to make various items, attend club meetings, present educational demonstrations, have fun at 4-H parties, camps, fairs, picnics, and tours, make new friends, and earn scholarships.

To join 4-H as a traditional member, youth must be between the ages of 8 and 19, as of the first of the year.  Cloverbuds are ages 5-7, also as of January 1 of the starting year.  Their parents primarily teach the Cloverbuds, while adults of any age can become 4-H leaders for clubs, projects, or activities.  For more information, please contact our office at 719-539-6447 or 719-836-4293 in Park County.
