Image Editing Using Photoshop and GIMP

Session 1

(Sept 08) Photoshop and GIMP - the GNU Image Manipulation Program, a free, open source image editor - are both powerful image editing tools. In this session we open, crop, repair (using the dodge and burn tools to lighten and darken), resize, and save an image for the web in both Photoshop and GIMP. How to download GIMP, legal issues concerning images, image databases, and image file formats (.gif, .jpg, .png) are also discussed. You can also download step-by step notes on how to perform these actions in Photoshop, and step-by step notes on how to perform these actions in GIMP. (1 hour)

Session 2

Unfortunately, there was no recording of Session 2 of the image editing tutorials.

Session 3

(Nov 08) In this session we build a header in both Photoshop and GIMP by combining images, logos and text.  We’ll work with layers, filters, transparency, transform tools, drop shadows and outer glow.  To participate in the hands-on aspect of this lesson, download the CSU logo and the NRCS image. You can also download step-by step notes on how to perform these actions in Photoshop, and step-by step notes on how to perform these actions in GIMP. (1 hour)
