Douglas County 4-H Leader's Council

The Douglas County 4- Leader's Council meets in the lower level conference rooms of the Douglas County Extension office every first Monday of the month, unless that Monday is a holiday. This is a great time for local 4-H leaders to get updated on the current changes, events, forms, etc. It is also the perfect time to network with other leaders to get new ideas for your club.

Report Your Club Status

Please keep the Douglas County Extension office informed about your club's status. To help us support your club, we need you to let us know if you are:

  • Accepting New Members: We consistently receive many calls from prospective 4-H member families looking for a club to join.
  • At Maximum Enrollment: We don't want to make referrals to your club if you're not accepting new members.
  • Changing Leaders: We want to have the most current contact information for your club.
  • Disbanding Your Club: We'll recruit new leaders and work to organize new clubs where needed.

To provide club status updates, please contact the 4-H Secretary. Our office hours are 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Important Tax and EIN Information

Remember if your club does fundraising or collects money in any way, they must have an EIN number and comply with Tax requirements as a 4-H Club. Here are some steps to getting a club account opened at a bank:
Be a recognized 4-H Club with your local Extension Office and the State 4-H Office.
Obtain a federal tax identification number or federal EIN (Employee Identification Number).
Submit a request electronically to National 4-H Headquarters to be included.
*A certification letter confirming inclusion under the National 4-H Group Exemption and status as a tax exempt entity will be returned to the applicant to keep on file or for use when a potential funder requires certification of tax exempt status.
*You should never use your personal Social Security Number on an account for a 4-H organization in lieu of an EIN specifically designated for that account. You may lose your Tax Exempt Status in doing so. In addition, it is illegal for 4-H funds to be co-mingled with personal accounts or other organizational accounts which are not tax exempt under 501(c)(3) regulations.
Open a 4-H Club account at a local bank. The account should have the name of the club and the words “4-H Club” attached to the name.
There should be two signers from different families on the account.
Contact the Extension office for complete details and any questions!
