The Importance of Play l January 2007
As you begin a new year don’t forget that one of the greatest things you can do for your child, regardless of age, is to PLAY!
I believe play provides the primary environment where a rich, meaningful father-child relationship is created and explored. Research indicates that through the power of play children acquire knowledge to:
- communicate their thoughts and feelings;
- cope with life’s stresses and emotional distress;
- connect with those around them in their family, school, or neighborhood; and
- comprehend the world around them through imagination, exploration, and learning.
Who knew learning could be such fun! So if you have some extra time at home this holiday season, make a point to connect with your child through play. Get down to their level, follow their lead, focus on their world and most of all HAVE FUN!
