Advanced registration is recommended. See the registration information at the bottom of this page.

Classes are offered on Tuesday afternoons or Thursday evenings and are held at the CSU Extension office at 305 S. Union Blvd. (need directions?)

Bulbs to Warm Your Springtime Soul

Winter weather is on its way. We’ll discuss ways to help the plants, the landscape and the gardener survive the ups and downs of winter in Colorado, and share information about the best bulbs to plant this fall for wonderful springtime bloom.

A Rainbow of Color - Irises and Daylilies:
So Much for So Little

Iris and daylilies are some of the easiest plants to grow and care for ­ they reward you with a rainbow of color from late spring to late summer. You’ll learn how to plant, fertilize, divide, maintain and enjoy the beauty of these glorious water-wise plants.

Renowned gardener, Stan Metsker, will show you rock gardens both near and far, interspersed with bits of experience and wisdom.

Before I Forget: Garden Evaluation for Busy People
Thomas Jefferson may have kept extensive garden journals, but most of us are lucky to have the time to garden, let alone keep detailed records. In this class, we’ll have a refresher on garden design and then look at ways to use a camera and notebook to evaluate and plan ahead for spring.

Permaculture in the Urban Setting
Permaculture is a design system for creating sustainable living environments. Used all over the world, permaculture is based on sound ethics and follows design principles to enable the everyday person to create the best, most functional designs for their home grounds. Whether in Africa, Asia or Colorado Springs, permaculture has much to offer you. Come discover new ideas for your suburban or urban home and gardens.

Great Vegetables Start with Good Preparation the Previous Fall
Learn about fall garden and soil preparation to set your vegetable garden up for success next spring. Be inspired by a video history of a year in an El Paso County veggie garden. Learn tips for getting the best possible yield and taste from your vegetables in our challenging climate.

Registration Information

The cost is $8 for individual classes, $40 for all six regular classes. To register for Gardening in the Pikes Peak Regions classes, please do one of the following:

  • Call 636-8923 or e-mail lindasmith@elpasoco.com and ask to be registered for the classes you want to attend. You'll be given information on where to send your payment.
