Gardening in the Pikes Peak Region Series
Classes are offered on Tuesday afternoons or Thursday evenings
and are held at the CSU Extension office at 305 S. Union Blvd. (need

Tomatoes: From Seed to Salsa
Tired of ending up with a few green tomatoes
at the end of the season? We will teach you the secrets of tomato
growing in Colorado Springs so you can enjoy delicious red tomatoes
into the fall. This class will cover seed starting, growing
under lights, transplanting seedlings, and tomato culture. We
will also include a list of successful varieties for our region.

The Xeriscape Connection
For those who are considering going xeric and
asking questions like “How do I get rid of the grass?”
or “Can I still use my old sprinkler system?”, this
class is for you. From design process to plant selection, find
out how the seven principles of Xeriscape apply to the renovation
of existing landscapes.

Direct Seeding of Wildflowers and Grasses
Have you ever planted one of those “meadows
in a can” and ended up with a weed patch? Why do many
direct seedings fail? Because you do not have enough information
to be successful! Large areas can be economically landscaped
by using a mixture of perennial, annual and grass seed. Learn
the critical steps for soil preparation, seed selection, planting
and maintenance to make your seeding successful.

Plantings
“Togetherness in the Plant World!”
A look at the compatibility of bulbs, annuals, perennials, shrubs
and ornamental grasses in the home garden setting to make desirable
floral accents.

Organic and Whole-System Gardening
To grow plants organically, only material derived
from once-living things is used. This program presents alternatives
to chemicals as well as optimum care of the soil, bio-intensive
planting, no-till gardening, forest gardening and natural controls.

|
The cost is $5 for individual classesand $20 for all five classes.
