County Fair Frequently Asked Questions

When are Fair Entry Forms due?

Fair Entry Forms are always due the Second Thursday in June.

When are Club Officer Books due?

NEW THIS YEAR! Club Officer Books (Secretary, Treasurer, Historian) are due the Second Monday in September to the Extension Office. They will no longer be collected prior to fair or displayed at fair. This is to give members time to work on them and include the entire 4-H year in their books.

Where are the rules for exhibiting or competing with project (tabletop, animal, shooting sports) at fair? (Exhibit/Contest Requirements & Premium Lists)

The rules we use in 4-H are called Exhibit or Contest Requirements. An Exhibit/Contest Requirement document for each of our project areas can be found on our webpage (County Fair Information.) In the past, Exhibit Requirements were called "Premium Lists" because they listed the premiums, or amount of money you could win in a contest. Be sure you print out a copy of your Exhibit Requirements, or pick one up from the Extension Office, so that you know your rules! CARRY THIS DOCUMENT WITH YOU AT FAIR! Also note that the Tabletop Exhibit Requirements are a two part document, you should print out both the County and State parts of this document.

My Fair Entry Form is asking for a class number. What is that and where can I find it?

Your class number can be found in your Exhibit Requirments. See the question and answer above.

When or where is _______________ show or event?

The entire fair schedule (including events prior to the start of fair) can be found above in the "2012 4-H and FFA Schedule and Important information" document. Check this document often because we are updating it regularly as we get new information. Show and event times (with complete descriptions of registration times) can be found in the Exhibit Requirements for each event. See the question and answer above for more informatio on Exhibit Requirements.

I have a question about a specific show or event. Who should I call?

You should call the Fair Superintendent for that project area. That person's contact information can be found on the last page of the "2012 4-H and FFA Schedule and Important information" document.

I am a 4-H Volunteer and/or Parent. When will I receive my free fair pass?

4-H Volunteers and Parents do not receive free fair passes. They have the option to purchase discounted weekly fair passes, which are available pre-sale only from the County Fair Office. For more information, see the source below.

I am a 4-H member. When will I receive my free fair pass?

Current 4-H members will recevie a free, week-long fair pass from their club organizational leader. At this time fair passes have not been distributed to the Club Leaders. Once available, we will announce when club organizational leaders can come pick up the fair passes for their club members in an upcoming newsletter or email.

Do I really have to drive all the way out to the Fair Office in Calhan to purchase my pre-sale passes, camper spaces and horse stalls?

For the most part, yes. However, County Fair Staff will be at our Extension Office on Thursday, June 14, 2012 to sell these items. Otherwise, you must purchase them at the Fair Office in Calhan. The Fair Office is open Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30p.m. They are closed on Fridays. If you have any questions, please call the fair office at 719-520-7880. We also recommend that you call the fair office to ensure they will be open before you go to purchase your fair passes.

I need more information on how to reserve my camping space at the Fairgrounds. Who should I call?

The County Fair staff deals with campers and camping spaces. The County Fair Office can be reached at (719) 520-7880.
