Shooting Sports Our Shooting Sports project area is safe, well organized, incredibly fun and very educational! See the links below for more information regarding Shooting Sports, or contact the extension office for more information.
Upcoming Opportunities and Events
Shooting Sports Safety OrientationIn order to participate the shooting sports practices and competitions, you must attend one of the two Shooting Sports Safety Orientations. This requirement is for safety purposes. There will be two Safety Orientations and one has already passed. The last safety orientation is on Thursday, April 5 at 6:30pm at the El Paso County Transportation and Environmental Complex (TEC) on 3275 Akers Drive Colorado Springs, CO 80922.
Hunter Education CoursesYou can complete the shooting sports project without having hunter education certification, but you can not compete at the county or state level without it. Since the competition is so much fun, get your hunter education certification! It is good for life, so once you have it, you are done! It typically takes a weekend to do it, so plan ahead. There are courses available at Sports Authority, and if you are in 4-H, they do it for free. You can also check Sportsmans Warehouse and the Colorado Division of Wildlife website for additional classes. CDW Classes - Please visit http://wildlife.state.co.us/Hunting/HunterEducation/
Additional Enrollment FeeDue to the nature of the shooting sports project, there is an additional project fee if you choose to participate in practices or the competition. If you are signed up for any shooting sports projects other than shotgun, there is a fee of $20.00 total. If one of your shooting sports projects will be shotgun, then the fee is $30.00 total. (The shotgun fee is slightly higher due to the cost of clay birds used for practice and competition.) Please make checks payable to the Shooting Sports Advisory Committee.

2012 PracticesClick the link for the 2012 Practice Schedule REMEMBER: All members MUST participate in AT LEAST TWO sanctioned practices PER DISCIPLINE in order to participate in any 4‐H competition. Members (except for those who drive themselves) must be accompanied by a parent at all practices. These practices are open to anyone who has attended a Safety Orientation. These practices are very safe and a lot of fun! All practices are supervised by certified shooting sports instructors. Please contact the practice coordinator by the Wednesday before the practice to confirm your attendance, the disciplines you intend to practice, and for information about any adjustments to the practice. The disciplines listed on the practice schedule are contingent on sufficient certified discipline leaders being able to attend the practices. Muzzleloading practices can be scheduled at Kristy Balsick's property only if coordinated in advance with the muzzleloading leaders (see the practice schedule for more information.) If it is raining or snowing, practice will be cancelled.
Colorado 4-H Shooting Sports Leader Certification TrainingsAre you interested in becoming a certified shooting sports leader? El Paso County needs high quality, well trained volunteers to help conduct official shooting sports practices! If you would like to get certified in one or more disciplines this year, please visit http://www.co4hshooting.org/article12212005.html for the 2012 Colorado 4‐H Shooting Sports Leader Certification Workshop locations and dates as well as the Workshop Registration Forms. We are fortunate to have trainings in our neighboring counties of Douglas, Lincoln and Fremont, and not too far away in Weld, Morgan and Otero Counties. There are also some farther away in Delta, LaPlata, Eagle and Garfield counties. Please remember, the registration forms MUST be signed by the County 4‐H Extension Agent, Jonathan Vrabec, so be sure to get yours signed before you submit it. Registration deadlines vary based on the date of the workshop, but the earliest is due February 3. If you have any questions, please contact Devin Engle, 4‐H Program Assistant at DevinEngle@elpasoco.com or 719‐520‐7698. Thank you for volunteering! |
