A big thank you goes to the Los Caballeros & Wetmore Wizards 4-H Clubs for starting the painting of the Pathfinder Park Outdoor Arena.
They got about half of the arena painted and did a great job. We're looking for other 4-H Clubs who would be willing to finish the job. Kuntry Kuzzins has already volunteered to help.
If your club is interested please call Tommy. Paint and supplies provided.
The Rocky Mountain Ford Stores have donated a 2009 Ford XLT F150 4x4 pickup truck to the Colorado 4-H Foundation to help raise funds for 4-H. The 2009 F-150 has recently been named the 2009 Motor Trend Truck of the Year. Raffle tickets will be sold until September by Foundation Board members, Extension staff and 4-H members and leaders. The drawing will be held at the Colorado 4-H Gala being held October 3, 2009 at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. Tickets cost just $5 each, or $20 for 5. Forty percent from each ticket will be returned to the county program or state 4-H project area responsible for the sale. The remaining funds will be used to fund special 4-H youth programs.
See the truck at Canon City's Blossom Festival & parade! All 4-H members and leaders can sell tickets! Can you help? Check some out and help us meet our goal of selling 500 tickets!

State 4-H Fees to be raised for the 2010-2011 4-H Year
Jeff Goodwin, Assistant Director for Colorado 4-H Youth Development Programs, recently announced that the $5 state 4-H fee that has been collected from Colorado 4-H members in organized clubs for the last five years will be raised to $15 for the 2010-2011 4-H year. The decision to make this change was made after much discussion with 4-H agents from around the state. The 4-H Roundtable (State 4-H Advisory Committee) was also consulted extensively on this issue.
Goodwin states that this increase was needed in order to maintain state staff and special project support that is necessary to manage the Colorado 4-H program. Goodwin also adds that he understands how this fee increase might put a strain on some county 4-H programs or 4-H families given the current economic climate; however, this is why the announcement is being made over a year and a half before it is to take effect.
Families must also remember that when the $15 state 4-H fee is carried out over 12 months it equates to $1.25 per month per 4-H member—or 4 cents per day. Even when county fees and project costs are added in, 4-H is still the biggest and best bargain in town when it comes to youth development programs.
As always, if a family with economic struggles wants their kids to be in 4-H, we will find a way to make it happen. If you are in such a situation, please contact the county Extension office for information about scholarship programs or alternative payment plans that can be set up so that every young person has the opportunity to be in 4-H.
If you have questions about this increase, feel free to contact the county Extension office or even speak to Jeff Goodwin at 970.491.1152.
This year, because the first Gymkhana has been set for May 30-31 we MUST have your horse certificates BEFORE this show. The new deadline will be May 27, 2009 instead of June 1!
Animal Care and Housing Forms for 4-H Members
ALL 4-H members with animal projects are REQUIRED to fill out an Animal Care Housing Form. This form must be filled out and on file in the Extension Office for a 4-H member to be enrolled in an animal project.
Premises ID Requirements for 2009
The Fremont County Fair Board will REQUIRE all livestock (goats, sheep, swine, and cattle), poultry, rabbits, and horses to have a valid Premises ID to ENTER the 2009 Fremont County Fair.
Premises ID's MUST be on file in the Extension Office BEFORE your County Fair entry will be accepted.
If you turned in a Premises ID in 2007-08 and you are keeping your project(s) at the same location you do not need to turn it in again.
If you move your projects to a new location, you will need a new Premises ID for that location.
COOL – County of Origin Labeling of Market Livestock Projects
ALL market Goats, Sheep, and Swine MUST turn in a COOL Declaration NO LATER than that species' weigh day in May. All Market Chickens MUST turn in a COOL Declaration NO LATER than the Fremont County Fair Entry Deadline.
