Truck Raffle Tickets

The Rocky Mountain Ford Stores have donated a 2009 Ford XLT F150 4x4 pickup truck to the Colorado 4-H Foundation to help raise funds for 4-H. The 2009 F-150 has recently been named the 2009 Motor Trend Truck of the Year.

Raffle tickets will be sold until September by Foundation Board members, Extension staff and 4-H members and leaders. The drawing will be held at the Colorado 4-H Gala being held October 3, 2009 at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science.

Tickets cost just $5 each, or $20 for 5. Forty percent from each ticket will be returned to the county program or state 4-H project area responsible for the sale. The remaining funds will be used to fund special 4-H youth programs.

See the truck at Canon City's Blossom Festival & parade! All 4-H members and leaders can sell tickets! Can you help? Check some out and help us meet our goal of selling 500 tickets!

Test Drives Provide Funds for 4-H

March is 4-H month at your local Ford Store.

A letter is being sent to each Colorado 4-H family (leaders and members) from Ford Motor Company offering a special test drive offer. Take your letter to a Ford dealer and test drive a new car or truck.

Each family will receive $25 and an additional $20 will be given to our County 4-H program.

June 1!

Community Service Opportunity

The Royal Gorge Rodeo Association is looking for some youth, adults and/or 4-H clubs to help at the 137th Annual Royal Gorge Rodeo on May 1st and 2nd. This would be a great way to show our community spirit and promote 4-H at the same time. Wear your favorite 4-H shirt and hat and come to the Rodeo.

Some of the activities that the Rodeo Association needs help with:

Horse project kids to carry sponsor banners on horseback in the Grand Entry, before and after each sponsored event.

Selling concessions i.e.; pop, candy, popcorn in the grandstands

Selling programs

If a club wanted to do an informational booth promoting 4-H, the County Fair and the Livestock Sale

Help with cleanup: Either before, between or after the rodeos

In return for helping each youth will receive a complimentary general admission ticket to the rodeo, drinks and dinner. They will also print the dates of the County Fair and Horse Shows in the Rodeo Program.

If you and/or your club is interested in helping at the rodeo or you have any questions, please contact Mark Masar at 372-6933.

Community Service Project

Fort Carson Families Need Blankets for New Babies!

Last year, 4-H Council officers made and donated more than 50 blankets for newborn babies of Fort Carson soldiers. This year, we would like to open it up to all 4-H clubs to help out.

All of last year's blankets have been distributed and more babies are on the way. Can your club help out? We put a message with each blanket, telling the moms that our 4-H youth care about what they are doing and appreciate their service to our country.

We had flannel receiving blankets, fleece blankets, and patchwork quilts. Fremont County 4-H makes a difference! Can your club help? Bring completed blankets to the Extension Office and we'll deliver them to Fort Carson .

Bowling Party News

The 4-H family bowling party was a great success. Nearly 200 people filled the bowling alley and had lots of fun. One of the bowling alley staff members said, “What a well-behaved bunch of children you have. I have never worked with a group this large and had the people so well-behaved.” This is a great compliment to our families! Thanks for making us proud!

Pathfinder Park News

Last month we told you that things are happening at Pathfinder Park . Well, hang onto your hats, because they are moving quickly! The Steering Committee has been meeting and a summertime event is being planned. Watch for more information in upcoming newsletters.

However, we need some volunteers and some donations.

Of course, at this event we will have food.

We have a steer donated, but need someone to finish it out from April through June. Can you do it?

We also are looking for donations of a couple market goats, a lamb or two, and some pigs.

Are you getting the idea that this will be a feast? You're correct!

It will be the first ever, Pathfinder Park Barn Raisin'!

Tentatively set for July 4, 2009 .

If you can help, or have questions, call Verla or Tommy at the Extension Office.

You may also call Virginia Patton (275-3144) or Larry Wagner (275-6077) Steering Committee co-chairs.

Next Steering Committee meeting will be Tuesday, March 24, 6:30 p.m. at the CSU Extension meeting room.

Eggs-Specially For You!

Rebekah White, New Horizons Club, is doing a community wide community service project this year. She is challenging all 4-H and community members who raise chickens to donate any extra eggs they may have to Loaves and Fishes, Manna House, or any other organization that provides food or meals to ones in need.

If you do have eggs and are unable to get them to an organization, please call 276-2871, leave a message, and they'll make arrangements to pick them up and have them delivered at no charge.

Bekah would like this to be a year round project for this great versatile food. Please remember to ask for your tax deductible receipt. Bekah would also appreciate donations of your egg cartons.
