Have you been thinking about National Preparedness Month?

Do you have any plans or activities underway?

September is National Preparedness Month

There are two things I want to highlight in this update to you…

1)      Everyone needs to Get a Kit . There are different kits for various emergency situations. Below, you'll find a list of links to resources that can be tailored to specific audiences.

2)      We are all familiar with H1N1 and the concerns of the predicted “second wave” this fall. As you may be partnering with schools, businesses and others on pandemic awareness and preparedness, please take some time to visit the EDEN Influenza and Pandemic Influenza Issue pages for detailed information and educational resources.

Resources for Building a Emergency Supplies Kit:

A Success Story

As always, additional materials are available on the EDEN National Preparedness Month Web page.

LIVESTOCK CHECKS ARE IN THE EXTENSION OFFICE!

Please come to get yours as soon as possible.

Don't forget to bring a stamped thank you note for your buyer when you come.

We have address labels for them if you need them!

Want to Learn How to Shear Sheep?

Colorado State University Extension and the Montana Sheep Institute wish to invite you to consider participating in a Wool Harvesting School, recognizing the shortage of trained, skilled sheep shearers in the region. The goal of the school is to provide students with basic shearing skills, and how to effectively assemble and maintain shearing equipment. Also in the context of the school is instruction on proper techniques of wool packaging. If you are a woolgrower and not interested in learning to shear consider identifying an individual in your area that may benefit from this opportunity and sponsor them to the shearing school. Equipment will be provided for use by students, however, students are encouraged to bring their own equipment if they have it.

The beginner school starts Friday, September 25 and will conclude Saturday afternoon, September 26. The school will be held at the Morgan County Fairgrounds, Brush, Colorado. The cost of the two-day school is $125 which includes educational materials. Registration deadline is September 11 and a minimum number of eight (8) students is required for the school. A maximum number of 16 participants will be enforced as individual instruction is a priority. For registration information, contact Steve LeValley, Extension Sheep Specialist, Department of Animal Sciences, Colorado State University, Fort Collins, CO 80523-1171; 970.491.1321; or email at steve.levalley@colostate.edu.
