Standards-based Science Curriculum

Embryology: The Study of Life
Grades 2-8

Embryology: The Study of Life is designed to provide background information and exciting life science activities for use in your classroom.

Children are naturally curious about living things in the world around them. Building on this curiosity, students can develop an understanding of biology concepts through direct experience with living things, including hatching eggs in their own classroom.

  • Each activity is designed to be grade-level appropriate and has been correlated to the U.S. National Science Education Standards.

  • This curriculum was developed with your students in mind. Many believe that students learn best through their experiences and interactions with the world, such as listening, observing, experimenting and ultimately applying their knowledge to real-world situations.

Incubators, eggs and literature are available for use in classrooms. For more information on this program, call the 4-H Office at
303-271-6620. Fees include a $5.00 incubator rental fee and mileage for the presenter.

National Western Stock Show Tours
Grades 1 through 6

National Western Stock Show (NWSS) tours are an opportunity for students to learn the affect of agriculture and animal sciences on their lives.

This program, designed for 2nd and 4th grade students, includes:

  • A free Stock Show tour, Monday through Friday, during the two weeks of NWSS
  • Free entry
  • A Barn Tours presentation - Conducted by agricultural educators, Barn Tours introduces students to physical traits of common domestic animals, their importance in providing food and fiber and predator/prey adaptations.

In preparation for your trip, a NWSS volunteer will provide a pre-tour classroom visit. At the pre-tour visit, the volunteer will discuss what the students will be seeing as well as safety procedures.

Letters and sign-up forms will be sent to teachers in November. If you have any questions regarding this program, contact the 4-H Office at 303-271-6620. There is no cost for this program.
