LEARN HOW TO SHOW FLOWERS AND VEGETABLES AT THE COUNTY FAIR
By Joanne Jones, Horticulture Extension Agent Saturday,
June 27, 2009 the Colorado State University Extension
office in Morgan County will host a series of workshops to instruct
area residents and 4-H members on how to show flowers and vegetables
at the Morgan County Fair.
Pat Ehrlich, Colorado Master Gardener volunteer and fair superintendent,
Sheryl Weibert, fair superintendent, and Joanne Jones, horticulture
agent will demonstrate and discuss how to best show home grown
flowers and produce. Examples will be available to show participants’
first-hand what makes an award-winning exhibit, and what conditions
result in fewer points earned.
The first session will run from 9-10:30 a.m. and will include
demonstration and discussion on how to show flowers in the Open-Class
Floriculture Division.
The vegetable session for the Open-Class Garden Division will
begin at 10:45 a.m. and will include demonstration based on the
fair book requirements for select categories, based on vegetable
availability.
4-H members may attend any of the sessions; however, a session
for Junior Garden Division will be held at 1:00 p.m. and will
highlight classes in the Junior Garden Division according to requirements
listed in the fairbook. Youth do not need to be enrolled in garden
projects to attend this session.
Morgan County Fair is open to anyone interested in participating;
Open Class Divisions are not restricted to county residents.
All sessions will be held in the meeting room at the Extension
office, 914 E. Railroad Ave., Fort Morgan.
For more information on the workshop
sessions, or to register, contact the Extension office at 542-3540.

for Grass (click for link)
ET is defined as the evaporation of water from the surface of
leaves and the soil. ET is the opposite of precipitation,
or the moving of water from the earth’s surface back up
into the atmosphere.
So that we can have more precise estimates of the amount of irrigation
to apply to turf it is helpful to know actual ET rates.
(ET – precipitation = irrigation amount required.)
